Here are some fun facts about ABBA:
- Name: The name ABBA is an acronym of the first letters of the band members’ first names. The band was originally called Festfolk, which means “party people” in Swedish.
- Eurovision: ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with their song “Waterloo”. The song was recorded in Swedish, English, German, and French.
- Members: All four members of ABBA were successful musicians before joining the band. Anni-Frid Lyngstad was the only member who was not originally Swedish.
- Album sales: ABBA has sold more than 300 million albums and singles worldwide.
- Reunion: ABBA reunited in 2016 to work on a digital avatar concert tour. Their first new album in 40 years, Voyage, was released in 2021.
- ABBA and other artists: Other artists who have sampled ABBA songs include The Fugees and Madonna.
